Advice needed about paying tuition late - first time poster! Please help!

This is my first post and I will appreciate any help I can get.
Here is my situation:

I am currently taking 2 summer college courses that will be ending on June 7th and 9th respectively. The final portion of my tuition bill is due on June 18th. I will be making payments til then, but I may not get the full amount paid until the beginning of July.
Now, normally the summer term lasts until the end of July, but these courses that I'm taking have been condensed, so they end quicker - instead of a normal 12 week course, these are 6 weeks.

I spoke to the Student Accounts office and they said that if my bill isn't paid by June 18th, I'd be dropped from the courses.

Can they do that even if the class is over and I've already received my grades by then?

I have EVERY intention of paying, it will just be later than I had anticipated due to work issues. I've already paid almost $2,000 towards the bill. I owe a little over $1,000 right now, but plan on having that down to about $400 - 500 by the time the 18th hits. I will be able to pay the remainder, just not in time to meet the deadline for the payment.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?
I'm very worried that if I have taken and completed the courses, they may still drop me and then I won't get credit for them.

Any advice will be deeply appreciated.

You need to meet the payment deadline the college has stated. Where my kids go to school, the bill for summer courses must be paid BEFORE the term begins. No exceptions.

Perhaps someone can loan you the money to make the payment to your school and you can pay them back in July.

I’d love to be able to tell you that the deadline for payment can be waived…but this is something ONLY your college can do. If they will not waive this deadline requirement, you MUST figure out a way to pay the bill on time if you want them to grant you credit for the courses.

Why don’t you see if you can talk with a dean at your school? Sometimes they can encourage the bursar’s office to have some flexibility. Also, the financial aid office may have an option for you - be sure and check.

Yes I would go back and check with a finaid administrator or a dean. If you are just alittle short they may have an emergency loan that you would use to satisfy the cashier’s office. We have not yet received the bill for my son’s summer class…and it’s already over. Summer terms are alittle different on most campuses. If you are taking another summer class that may have bearing, also. My son is taking another short term summer class during the second session and it appears they will send the invoice reflecting the class that is already done and the one that will start later in June.

Colleges may also charge a late fee or hold transcripts for accounts that are past due.

sclaus, just go and talk to them. They may have ways they deal with things like this, you are not the first student who couldn’t pay their account off on time. There really just isn’t anyway of knowing without talking to someone at your college.

Many colleges have emergency loans for times like these. Call the deans office and also call the financial aid office.

Other options…pay the balance with your credit card and pay that off or request a small Stafford loan for summer. If you’re a matriculated student and are Pell eligible, call the FA office and ask if you qualify for a summer FA award.
