Hey...I'm just trying to prepare for the courses that I should take in my freshman year (first semester first...taking it one at a time!). I was hoping that some of you might be able to help me with which classes to take and which Professors to choose. I'm planning to double major in:
1)Eonomics+Intl Politics (joint major)
2)Math
As for ap's...Us History (5), Biology (5), English Lit (4). This year I took Calc AB, Chemistry, English Lang, Microecon, Macroecon...all of which I am expecting 5's in (hopefully). Also physics...but that was a disaster!
I'd appreciate someone advising me on my course and prof selection so I can start early. Thanks!

C'mon guys...all you Middkids out there...need some advice!

Can't give you advice but hello anyway (class of 09). What seminar did you pick?

Hey Sambouc...looks like Midd accepted 2 students! I'm an intl student from India, currently studing in Myanmar (Burma). What about you...ok if you tell me about yourself? We should have a CC party when we get to Vermont!

I chose the Communism and Fascism FYS...sounds like an interesting topic and I heard that Jay West is an awesome prof.

What about you?

Wow... that is a LOT of APs, and a LOT of 5s. How the hell did you... what high school did you go to? I'm at a typical new england prep school, but I don't take any APs (i'll be a senior next year) and I can't next year because i'll be abroad (http://sya.org). Anyways, I know Middlebury SAYS that Character is the most important thing for admissions, but does that mean someone like me with a 3.2 and no APs (though in all honors/adv. classes) could still get in?

Well look...I think that Middlebury gives equal consideration to honors classes as it does to APs. But I think that you should point out your circumstances (studying abroad, taking all honors/advanced classes etc.) to the college in your app. And believe me...most LACs do look at an overall assesment of the applicant. Even extremely selective schools like Middlebury.
And I'm from a pretty average international school (intl sch yangon) in Burma. We only have 120 in high school...and my graduating class this year was ONLY 23 students!

My daughter is going to Midd and the info says all you have to sign up for online in first year seminar. Otherwise have an idea of your other 3 courses as you and your advisor will finalize it when you get there. You will also take placement tests even if you took APls. So it looks like all you really have to do now is pick one course. Good luck,

thanx yermom...i read the info. just wanted to know more about the profs since most classes are taught by 2 or more profs. By getting to know early about who's good and who's not I figured I could enroll in my chosen professor's class early as it is 1st come 1st serve.
yup...I picked the communism&fascism fys. what about your daughter?

oxymoron...i am also majoring in intl politics and economics..awesome..i guess ill be seeing you around a lot..well i think ill be finishin up my courses for my major junior and senior yr bcuz ill be devoting a lot of my time to premed stuff....oh yeah..what language r u takin..?

depending on where you are studying abroad, you should still be able to take AP tests. usually they're only offered in the major cities, though, so it could be a hassle (for example, my friend studied abroad in france and took her APs in paris).

I'm not sure about the lang...I'm thinking French or Spanish. Hey sexidesi (indian right?) what first year seminar did you register for?
Wait...i dont get it. you're majoring in intl pol+econ AND pre-med? That's crazy hard isnt it?
Anywayz...yup I guess we'll see each other quite a bit...but how do I identify you? Let me start with the intros...I'm Akshay.

Soooo...anyone register for the "communism & fascism" fys?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo...looks like it's just me then!

well i did but as my 3rd or 4th choice if i remember right

Really?? What was your first choice? And what is your major(s)/intended major(s)?

Major intended: Intal Relations.

Wow...we might have some classes together. So...sambouc, are you coming to intl orientation?
What language are you planning to take?

look at middkid.com for course information. it's not that reliable since not enough people use it, but its a start.

Thanks ohsobored!
Are you Class of 09 at Midd??
