Hey CC

I'm stuck in a bit of a dilemma. I'm picking classes for my senior year and I don't know what to do with two spots.

Currently I know I am going to be taking
AP Calc AB
College writing
French 4
Psych. 1, 2

But then I'm left with two spots in my schedule. (note I want to go into Computer Science)
One of them has to be an AP.

If I take AP STATISTICS that would mean I have one more spot. Do colleges like to see four years of Science because I was thinking about taking AP comparative Govt and not taking the AP test for that (teacher does a bad job at preparing students) or should I just take a science like Anatomy or Forensics/Geology(semester courses)

OR I could force myself to take a science like AP physics but I feel like this would be a bit of a challenge for me and could ruin my GPA going into my senior year. What would be the result if I got a low score on the AP test like a 2-3 and I did not submit my scores. Would that affect my chances?

Thanks!

Since you already have a social science with psych, I would not take gov in lieu of a science… With AP Physics, you’re taking the test in May after you have been admitted rejected, so it won’t matter to colleges. Don’t take AP Physics if you think you’ll get a C in the class, but if you think you can score a B or higher, that shows more rigor than forensics

What If I were to take AP Statistics and along side that take Anatomy? That way I have a science that looks better than forensics?

I get good grades in Honors Physics right now but I heard it gets harder with AP physics second semester when more calculus is involved. On top of that I would only have less than a year of calculus experience.
I’m honestly just really scared to take it but I love physics and feel taking STATS would be safer.

I’m a bit confused. So, @Skieurope are you saying that my AP results can really only benefit myself at this point?
Colleges won’t even see it?

Should I just take both AP Stat and AP physics? I’m not sure if I could handle both of them but I think I could get a b+ in both at least with my other schedule.

Colleges will see it on your mid-year transcript,and you list your senior year classes on your application, but they will have made their admission decision before you take the AP test. Any scores from senior year you can choose to send or not send based upon if your score will get you college credit. You can take the test or not take the test, unless your school requires you to take the test. You can get a 1 and your college acceptance will not be rescinded.

I assuming you’re talking AP Physics C. Yes, there is calculus involved, not not a ton. Most people take calculus at the same time and due fine; I did.

AP Physics will look more rigorous than anatomy, and colleges want to see that you are challenging yourself. If you feel you can get a B+, I;d go for it.

@skieurope
Should I even bother with a science class? And do you recommend me swapping out psych for ap comparative govt? That way I have 3 APs?
Also is there really a difference if i changed full year of anatomy to forensics/geology for a semester?

Take courses that will help with getting out of gen ed. Like Skieurope said, the exam doesn’t matter transcript wise. As its after you’re admitted and know where you’re going that you’ll get the score back.

CS majors usually have to or should take a Stats and Physics, so it may be worth while taking one or both of them. Check and see if AP Comparative Govt will get you out of gen ed, because saving money and not taking another useless gen ed to your major would help.

I’d take AP Physics, AP Stats, and AP Calc AB…if its too much then I’d drop Stats personally for Govt

@gnastygnorc
My schedule is looking like
Ap stat
College writiinstead of h I and II
French 4
Ap calc AB
Anatomy

I really don’t feel confident in physics… So I’m just going to stick with ap stat.
I prefer psych but should I change it for AP comp govt (easy A) ? Does it really make a difference if I do it for not?

My GPA is a 3.9 and my weighted right now I’d a 4.1 which should increase to a 4.2 overall? By next year

Also I’m wondering if taking a class like forensics and geology instead of anatomy would ruin my chances…

can someone reply to mine? lol
and i think yours is good. i think anatomy would be better than forensics & if you like psych go for it, some colleges dont give credit for ap gov but i still need a gov class to graduate

This is just me personally. I’m a junior and I picked my schedule. I’m interested in going into the pre-med root and the sciences I’m taking are AP Bio and Physics. I really really really really didn’t want to take AP Bio (like how you don’t want to take Physics) but I’m doing it anyway because I’ve heard that’s really necessary… for the major (or program rather) I want to pursue. I think researching Computer Science prerequisites would help a lot.

Ok, ONE last question you guys have been EXTREMELY helpful!

I have an opportunity to change Psychology I + II for AP Comparative Govt
On the plus side I WOULD a total of three 3 AP classes and my schedule looks more rigorous BUT I really like what I hear about psych.

Should I just take the AP class? Will it make the difference? With comp gov I would have 4 total aps and without I would have 3

My Senior Schedule would be
AP CALC AB
Anatomy
College Writing
AP STAT
French 4
AP COMP GOVT OR PSYCH

:)

@skieurope
Do you think taking AP COMP. GOVT over Psych I + II will make a significant impact when application time comes?

I’m lacking in EC’s if that makes a difference :

Personally, no.Take whichever one interests you the most.

@skieurope
What do you mean personally?

Crap, I changed it.

Personally = in my opinion

@skieurope I’m sorry I’ve been so out of it lately. lol
My interest is in psych. I really don’t care for politics.
The way I was looking at it was hey if I take this AP class it adds more rigor and can boost my weighted gpa
(its almost at 4.1 right now as a junior… or a 4.3 without freshman and junior year)

It’s pretty apparent I don’t want to apply to Ivy league schools but schools like University of Illinois urbana - champaign, U. of michigan, michigan state, and some over Canadian unis :

I’m just afraid I don’t compare to other applicants.

Then take psych, and use that passion as a building block on your essays. I’m not a big fan of building schedules to impress admissions, and I feel that most admissions officers are savvy enough to know when that is the case.
