Im currently a junior studying in India, and have received my US Green Card and Citizenship this August and i have the chance to join a US school in december, but is it worth it ? I have all A’s except 2 B’s on my 9th and 10th transcript and I would most probably score 95%+ in 11th, but will it be better if i go to US for the second semester and score high in AP classes ? I think that would also solve all the class rank and grades conversion problem that may arise if I go to US for senior year,… right? So I wanted to ask whether I would be better off joining my US school in december or in senior year? Kindly reply as it would be very helpful to me
Yes it is worth it to go in December, because the Indian-from-India pool is INCREDIBLY competitive, whereas the Indian-who-just-immigrated pool is less competitive (although competitive overall :p).
In addition, you’ll have more time to get used to the US system.
Transferring after this year would mean you may go into 11th grade because you wouldn’t have enough time to prepare your applications if you started in the 12th grade.
The sooner you can get here, the better. Public school systems in the US enroll new students throughout the year. If you got on a plane tomorrow, you could possibly be in class by the end of the week. Yes, some school districts are that well organized and can handle even international arrivals very efficiently. Contact the school district where you will be enrolling, and find out what paperwork you need to bring with you, and what (if anything) needs to be sent directly from your old school to the new one.
