I don’t mean to hijack this thread but has anyone used that airbnb site? It looks interesting.

92Y is somewhat inconvenient, but has very little left for July. Only doubles, and you have to take at least 45 days.

No, nothing at Columbia, or any other school we tried.

Rodney, that is what he said (actually in an email). It’s just another indication to me that some college admin people are clueless about money. The well, your child wants to go to college here, what’s the big deal with spending money. Scary.

Seriously, she could probably stay at a decent hotel for less than $6,000.

Have you tried International House? Rates seem reasonable, and good location on Upper West Side near Columbia.

[International House - New York - Summer Student Housing](http://www.ihouse-nyc.org/s/707/index.aspx?sid=707&gid=1&pgid=309)

And I know you said you tried all the local colleges, but NYU is claiming (as of Thursday) to have space for non-NYU students:

My d paid $1200/mo for a 2 month Manhattan sublet. The apt had a roommate (gay, male and very nice). I would suggest trying Craigslist again with a view toward this kind of arrangement, provided you meet the roommate. My d had to sublet the sublet a few weeks ago when the terms of her internship changed. It would have been perfect for you but you have to at least spend a day or 2 investigating what is listed.

I would go with inconvenience and use a little extra $$ for taxis if need be for a month.

jrpar, that would be our vote also, but we are going to look at sublet tomorrow. grrr. too much stress in my life

Check this out: [The House of the Redeemer](http://www.houseoftheredeemer.org). I’ve known friends who have stayed there. It is cross town from the college but the rates are the most reasonable. The Vanderbilt (?) YMCA near the UN is also a possibility.

92nd street Y is in a fabulous and safe neighborhood, with a quick walk to the subway (the line Mayor Bloomberg takes to work- the air conditioning in the cars works even on the hottest summer days). How is that inconvenient? Your D will need to take the subway regardless of where she lives- that’s just how people in NY get around. And they screen applicants- I would be less worried about living in a double at the Y than I would taking a random roommate situation off Craigslist. Plus the Y has security/doorman, most walk up apartments will not (and for sure not in your price range.)

So, whatever happened with this? Was there a resolution?
