I am writing an essay on my "recipe for life" and using food/preparation techniques as symbols for differend aspects of my personality.

What I'm wondering is--if I put the actual recipe (with measurements and everything) at the end of the piece, would that be interesting/unique (i.e. good), tacky, or just pointless?

It really depends.
If you say most of it in the essay you don't need it. if you're just sort of talking about it in general it might be interesting to add it.
Pretty much you don't need to repeat it again if it's all already there.

Of course that's just advice without seeing it. It's hard to give a good answer with little information.

Thanks...bumping it up...

Also, any ideas on what types of food are witty, intuitive, or focused?

When I toured Occidental last spring, the admissions representative said that the best essay they got last year was in recipe form, and it had the office howling with laughter, because the person just made it really really funny.

Now I don't know if that's what you are going for, but it apparently worked at that school.
