I attend UF and was thinking about taking chem 2 and calc in the fall. A friend of mine took this her first semester here and she failed one of her classes. I want to do as well as i can in this class so i was thinking of taking this and two other easy classes to balance out my schedule but i know that for pharm school i need to show them i can handle a rigorous course load. I was thinking about taking stats as well but is this too much.? At uf i know they look at the science gpa more than the overall gpa so i figured taking chem, calc, and two other easy electives would allow me to focus on getting an a in my chem & bringing my science gpa up(got a c in chem 1)

Considering that you got a C in Chem 1, if you were to take Chem 2 you would need to put forth a lot of effort towards studying every night. Chemistry is a class that builds on itself, so in order to do well you will need to master the basics. If you can understand the basics, the rest of the class is much easier.

If you are a strong math student, I don’t see Calculus being any problem for you-- especially if you took it in high school and you have background knowledge on it. The same goes for Statistics.

In the end, it is all up to you. If I were in your position, I would definitely go for the more rigorous schedule, but only if I felt that I could meet the required time and work commitments. However, if the more rigorous schedule will effect your GPA and your future, I would take it easy.

If you have an interest in these classes that will help you as well, as opposed to dragging yourself through it day by day because you perceive the work to be boring.

Good luck!
