Hi! I just committed to a college for next year, when I will be a freshman!
The dorm that I will likely be in is a suite style, where two double rooms share a bathroom and a kitchen; however, due to medical reasons and anxiety, I have requested accommodation for a single room—hopefully that will work out.
I have a few worries about college:
Will the two other people in my kitchen/bathroom suite at college judge me or think I’m weird for being in a single room?
How do I make friends in college?! I’m an introvert, hate partying, etc. I am terrible at making friends but I don’t this to stop me from making them!
There are several pinned posts here in the college life forum that will address many of your concerns, so look at those first.
Your college will have a medical office. That should be your first stop if you get sick. Many kids don’t take care of themselves as freshmen. Mono is common. Get enough sleep. That’s crucial. Don’t just eat junk, avoid drinking too much alcohol. Bring some basic medicines with you: pain killers, cold medicine, antihistamines if you have allergies, eye drops, antibiotic ointment and bandaids, etc…
No one is going to think you’re weird if you have a single. Why would they? Lots of kids have singles. Be glad you might not have to share your personal space with someone.
Don’t find things to worry about before you even get to college. Relax. By far, th vast majority of students get through their college years successfully, and you will too.
Sick: Your college will have a Health Center. That is your first place to go to. Also see if there is an urgent care center nearby. If you have a chronic issue (e.g., diabetes), it might be good to find a local doctor.
Or if it is something that is mostly under control, can you see your doctor when you go home on breaks?
Anxiety:

If you haven’t been formally diagnosed, consider seeing a psychiatrist before you go to college.
If you have been, make sure you know how to order any medications you may be on. Do you get them mail order? Will you have to get them locally? My daughter’s college had an arrangement with a local pharmacy where they would deliver Rx’s to campus. Does yours?
@Lindagaf I assure you that people with anxiety will find things to worry about!
@bonjour1 Find out as much information as you can before you go. If you have a specific question, don’t hesitate to contact the people at college. First look at the website to see like what the Health Center hours are and how to make appointments. But if you want to know if the health center can help with a specific condition, then email/call them and find out.
