Advice on how to proceed?

Hi,

While doing my searches on how I should proceed, using Google, CC was one of the few sites that kept popping up. And on reading and finding how helpful this community is I pose my dilemma.

The dilemma I am facing as of right now is that I am in my final semester and I am not remotely enjoying what I am studying and that is Chemistry and as a result it is slowly affecting my GPA. I have managed to barely keep it above a 3.0 overall but I fear that it might drop further. I have another semester to go to complete my BS but I am thinking of just walking out with a BA instead rather than spending a semester more taking classes and then trying to apply to Graduate School instead. I think my main problem is I am 26 and still completing my degree while EVERYONE I know have completed their Masters. :'(

On a side note the last two years I have been working at the university as a student IT Assistant and I find myself fascinated in programming also I have lived with a bunch of BME's and find their work very interesting specially since it involved modeling and programming, two things that I know I would enjoy. All of them did Masters and have been successful in landing jobs.

And this is where my problem lies getting into Grad School and that too in the field of engineering.....

Not having a competitive GPA.

Not a lot of work experience in the engineering field.

Would having a BS over a BA in Chemistry affect a lot when trying to apply into graduate school. My local university luckily has no strict requirement on this criteria and this is one reason why I am thinking of taking the BA route as I would be able to graduate this semester itself. I do have Calc I/II/III and Deferential Q along with PHYI/II w/calc.

Should I walk out with the BA and try to apply to grad schools? Should I instead of trying to get a MS go back and attain another BS in Engg.? Am I screwed w/ the decisions I have made? How to fix the issues? How to go about getting an internship position involving engg. maybe BME related?

As you can see soooo many questions! PLUS reading up here on how BME is a pointless major does not help me to understand what the future may hold for me :(

So any advice would be highly appreciated!!!!

Not being an engineer, I’ll avoid any discussion on how to proceed into that field.

What I want to know is what don’t you like about chemistry? This should guide your search with the goal of either staying within the realm of chemistry (chemistry itself, engineering, sales, etc.) or parlaying the components of your degree into something else (health care fields, teaching, law, etc.)

Don’t feel that you are “stuck.” With a little bit more course work you can turn a chemistry degree into about anything you want.

Good luck.
