- Is there anyway I can get that type of document without my parents knowing? They wouldn’t let me sign up for reduced lunch last year nor reduced AP test.

From information in this link it seems you can be direct certified by being on SNAP.
Ask at your school if that is possible.
Alright. I will ask. Thank you.
@TheYellowBiscuit – I am pretty sure it is a full ride, meaning that it covers tuition, room, and board, but it may be that it covers the amount after Pell Grant and/ or student loans are applied. I am really not sure. An additional application and an interview are required.
However, most of my information is anecdotal from talking with students in the program. I suggest that you call the Centennial Scholars program office. I am sure that someone there would be happy to give you definitive answers to your questions.
Thank you very much for mentioning this. I will give them a call soon if I can. My parents actually love JMU (my sister went to band camp there some years ago) so I don’t see a reason, if I can get this, they would not let me go. I will also look into the transfer option as well (if it is a full ride) because I believe that JMU is one of the partners (need to double check) of Richard Bland College. Than my sister could also attend there.
I wanted to give an update on my situation. It was very hard for me, but I did succeed in getting my parents to complete the profile and information for University of Richmond and JMU. I retook the ACT and SAT and my scores got worse. @-)
However, it is with great pleasure (and by a miracle) that I was admitted to both of these colleges! I am getting a full ride to the University of Richmond!!! Thank you all so much for telling me about this school or I would not have applied. Thank you so much. I’m glad this is a happy ending story.
Also, I qualified for the JMU Centennials and have an interview, though I am wondering if I should withdraw as I got a full ride from U of R. Again, thank you so much. I am so glad that I can go to college and not have my financial situation and family stop me.
Sorry I can only like once. I want to hit the button 10 times.
This is one of the best stories on CC!
Congrats and best of luck.
@ClassicRockerDad Thank you! I am so happy that U of R was need blind and that these individuals gave me advice. I don’t know how to thank them enough. I really didn’t want to give up on my education and this really helped me.
You are going to do great things in life! Congratulations!!
Thank you. @TQfromtheU
Congrats @TheYellowBiscuit !!! Thank you for the update, too:)
So happy to read this. All the best to you! You deserve it!
Congratulations What a terrific ending… And a great beginning!
This is awesome!!
Congratulations! Awesome news.
I did not see this thread back when the OP first posted, and I’m glad because now I get to see the happy news right away! @TheYellowBiscuit, I am so happy for you that everything worked out (and that you are getting out of your parents’ house). I hope that your life just gets better and better from here on out. Congratulations!
@TheYellowBiscuit, please keep us updated about your decisions, visits, and… further years.
Thank you all so much! :x
@MYOS1634 I will! Definitely! Actually, I also found out I got into JMU’s honor college. I hear it is very good and I was afraid I wouldn’t get in. I like the benefits of the honors; however, I feel like UR is still my best chance or would give me a better chance to have a successful future. Then again, I really like the support system that the Centiennials Scholarship would give me. I might need that more on a personal level. So I am a bit conflicted the more I think!
I am officially committing to University of Richmond. I plan to turn in my forms/ signature to them on my 22nd Richmond Experience. As for visits, I visited JMU and felt myself drawn to UR while I was there. I even had to stop myself from talking about UR too much. I felt that JMU was a bit off from what I wanted and the campus was too big. The people were friendly though! I can’t wait to be an official Spider! I even put the move-in date on my phone!!! :x
Congratulations!!
