Advice on Volunteer opportunities?

Hi,

I'm looking for chances to do volunteer work. I've kind of hit a wall, because most locations, like the free clinic or tutoring, are too far for me to walk. (Sucks not having a car) So, I'm seeking advice here, about what you guys have done to get around this. (I know about buses. I would prefer one on campus or near walking distance though) Or better yet, are there volunteer opportunities that are really near campus? Thank you for your time.

Clubs like Circle K, Calpirg, or specific-college-related ones have a lot of events available. You can also try working at any of the co-ops where you can work whenever. Or if you're willing to adventure a bit the hospital there's a shuttle that runs every 30 minutes, but it only takes 20 minutes to walk there if you're still against that.

tutor at the preuss school. shuttle from price center runs every 10 min.

volunteer at scripps or thorton or the cancer center/eye center. use the same shuttle. volunteer at the VA. walk there (it's across from gilman parking). try other student orgs that seem interesting. are there any particular types of volunteering you're looking for?

circle k requires $$. why pay for community service? calpirg (imo) is annoying...do their volunteers just get thrown onto library walk to harass students to pledge calpirg? (sorry...they just won't leave me alone!)

I second looking into community service clubs in your college, or in any other college for that matter.....they're usually smaller, so it's easier to make friends, and there are usually a lot of opportunites available.
