Advice on Wharton

So I'm applying to IU, Ohio State, Washington University in St. Louis and UPenn. My initial thought was that I'd accept the cheapest school after scholarships and if they were close then go with the best, ie Penn (I'm an intended business major).

I was talking with a columbia grad this week about it and he said he has a Wharton grad working for him who will make 350k this year and he's in his mid 20's! His advice was take Penn regardless, do well, disregard getting an MBA and then try for a job at Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan or somewhere like that to get to this level.

Is this salary and quick promotion up the ladder common for Wharton grads or does he just work with an exceptional individual? Also, does a degree from Wharton get you close enough or in MBA positions without going back to school? Finally, would you recomend going to Penn over a debt free education at any of these other schools?

Thanks
