I am going to major in Sociology/Political Science/ Urban Studies (depending where I attend) on a pre-law track with a minor in Social Justice/Peace Studies/civic engagement/ non-profit management or public relations/communications. (also depending on where I attend).

These are the schools I am considering
Duquesne
Marquette
Xavier (Cincinnati)
St. Louis University

Can anyone offer info on these schools? As of now I would most likely attend Duquesne because they offered me $15,000 a year. I would do their 5 year B.A in Sociology, M.A. in Social and Public Policy program. But I would like to hear what people have to say.

Out of those 4 schools....which is most prestigious?

I am considering other schools too, but they are my reach schools, so if I get in, I would try to go there. (BU and Northwestern)

It’s funny, you applied to many of the same schools that I have. I think you made good choices because they are all urban schools and I think that’s important for what you’re majoring in – many intern and community involvement opportunities. As for which school is the most prestigious – I think they are all similar (with the exception of Northwestern). Don’t pay too much attention to the rankings – these school are all top-tier schools.

1st - you should figure out $, narrow down to the schools that will offer you the most money. Have you submitted your FAFSA? There might be more money opportunities coming.

2nd - It looks like you have done your homework with Duquesne – figure out which other schools offer a 5 -year BA/MA program (that’s a money saver) and gives you an edge on Law School App if you decide to go that route.

3rd - did you have the opportunity to visit the each campus and meet with faculty from your intended major? I believe this is very important – go with your gut here. Also, spend some time in the city - see if it’s a city you can see yourself living in.

You have been accepted into very good schools and I believe at the end you might have to rely on your gut for your final choice. You are not alone. I am going through the same torment – I have been offered good Merit money to Marquette, SLU and Duquesne and I am waiting on BU and Northeastern. They are all great schools for my intended major and I really like them all. So now I am visiting them again during the Accepted Student days in order to make my final decision.

I hope this helps – I don’t know much about your major for these schools because mine is so totally different. Sorry I couldn’t be more specific. Though I am surprised that with your major your did not apply to any of the Washington DC schools, Catholic U, American, GW – they are great for your major and a great city for internships.

hi erp, maybe i’ll see you next year! haha.

thanks so much for your input. i can tell your answer is really well thought out; i really appreciate it. yeah i live in philadelphia, and i can’t imagine not going to school in an urban environment. haha. i nearly applied to catholic u, GW and american. i decided against it and now i actually kind of regret not applying to american, but oh well.
