Moonifieds are individual auditions with 20+ schools in attendance using the same format as Unifieds. Some of the auditions are final, some are live prescreens. There is one joint dance call. You can audition for as many programs as you desire - Moo’s staff arranges all the auditions for each student which makes it much simpler and more efficient than Unifieds. The long weekend includes Master Classes with several MT program heads from popular programs like Wright State and Texas State, a pizza party, a parent panel, a mini college fair and more. Most of Moo’s students also do Unifieds.
The MTCA consult price isn’t currently listed on their website but it is in their Menu of Services, which they send if you email for detailed information. After the consult, each individual coaching is $120/hour.
@Notmath1 I think your comment about wishing MTCA also had a “Moonifieds” like event is an interesting suggestion. I definitely don’t think Unifieds can be considered their Moonifieds. Moonifieds is specifically for Moo’s students which really changes the game and hence the price tag you have to pay. Anyone can go to Unifieds. Of course many MTCA students attend but I have known local kids without any coach who have attended and done well. And it is a ton of kids!! There is no special access for MTCA students. The only separate audition that MTCA offered in 2017 (my daughter’s year) was a Baldwin Wallace audition which for us fell on the day she was taking the ACT’s! (Then we couldn’t get and audition spot and BW ended up off our list…so my advice for BW is schedule early.) MTCA does offer mock auditions - we did one as a practice and found it very valuable. Overall their coaching was great and because it was ala carte - we found it affordable.
@singoutlouise Yes you are right, New York Unifieds is not the same. But I guess the fact that all those schools are already auditioning in NYC it seems unlikely that another audition group would be that helpful.
I very much wanted to have my son participate in Moonifieds, but found that it would be cost prohibitive for us.
We had an online session with Mary Anna Dennard and she was awesome. He would have loved working with her. The initial consult was 175.00. The information we were given was that in order to participate in Moonifieds you had to purchase the online access to Musical Theatre videos (699) and commit to 4 additional consult sessions (4x175) then you could attend Moonifieds which is an additional cost (450).
Sadly, with the upcoming costs of senior year and college we couldn’t justify the costs. Thankfully we have a great team locally that have been helping us with material but I am sorry we can’t in this really neat opportunity.
I did see she posted on social media a coaching workshop in early October in Cleveland Ohio that is an audition prep weekend. We may try that!
@Kristiern1 D1 attended that workshop a few years ago. It is an excellent workshop that I really wish they would do late summer or early September!
Last year at Moonifieds, I believe all were final auditions except Penn St, Texas St, Oklahoma, Pace and Otterbein. If cost is truly a hindrance, inquire about scholarships.Look at the list of schools attending- in some cases, if your child’s schools all fall on that “final audition” list - you will definitely save money; and in return will have a much calmer and more intimate audition schedule/experience. My kid did Moonifieds, 3 auditions at nearbyish schools, and 1 day of callbacks at Chicago Unifieds.
@beachymom thanks for the scoop! I am curious of those 5 you mentioned were auditions with the head of the department or just a faculty member. Did it serve as a prescreen? Thanks for any insider knowledge
And again congratulations to your son and Carnegie Mellon. I have already heard praise of his talent.
@Notmath1 - if I recall correctly, TxSt, Pace and OU were conducted by department heads (and possibly additional faculty). Penn St and Otterbein were done by MT faculty/directors. Those all served as live prescreens, with callbacks either at Unifieds or the individual schools. And thanks for the kind words; the level of talent in these 17 and 18 year olds is astounding across the board.
Hi all. New member, excited to join in the CC community. After reading about everyone else adventures, we are beginning the audition journey of this cycle as my daughter auditions for MT and acting programs! We are using Chelsea Diehl from MCA and started with her this spring. She and her team have been a huge help to us!
Chelsea and her team so far have been amazing. It really gives my daughter the freedom to drive the process with a lot of independence and confidence.
Everyone’s needs are different, but I can say that in our case, Chelsea and her coaching services have given us some ease in this process.
@NYKaren My S did attend Moonifieds. His experience was a mixed bag mainly for personal reasons. Frankly, he was not prepared at that point to “show his best.” (More personally, he was ill the week before and it looked dicey that he would even be able to go.)
He did get a couple a few acceptances in the end from Moonifieds from very solid programs. But if we were to do it over again, we would push off a few of the top choices to Unifieds as he grew from the Moonified experiences.
Overall, it is a good experience and worth the money. But, in my opinion, it is best to have an overall gameplan and work Moonifieds into it. (Each student has their own “top 10” and list of schools to consider.)
Thanks @beachymom That is pretty much what I thought. Good to have it confirmed from someone who was there
You’re welcome @Notmath1 I’m a believer in transparency and facts, as they tend to help others. Where does/did your child attend?
@beachymom Long story. I will message you. Thanks for the help/facts!
@beachymom - did your son cmu come from moonifieds? I am sorry if I missed this info. It is hard to keep everyone straight!
@NYKaren do you remember about when your Moonifieds offers came?
@Notmath1, we are not currently working with Moo. It was only something I was pondering. My son is a rising senior now.
Sorry, I meant that to go to @DramaMan!
Moonfied Juniors? What say you, CC?
I think Moonifieds Juniors seems like a fantastic opportunity for juniors to get an idea of what to expect. My son is a rising junior and for us a lot of the stress is “the unknown”. This seems like it could help with that. But I really don’t know as we are just starting the process.
