advice, please. dd is a junior and I'm looking toward the future.

Whoops, I meant grade deflation. :-)

May want to look at some LACs in the upper tier, but not tippy top.

Thought not east coast, Rhodes in Memphis, TN is worth a look as well as Ursinus in PA. Both are in the Colleges That Change Lives book. Both offer merit. Many LACs are in need of ethnic diversity.

“I did the EFC last night (thanks to the link provided in one response) and it came out to $12,000. HOW is that possible? We are certainly not wealthy.”

Yup, the numbers can be very surprising. In addition to your FAFSA EFC, you also need to define your own family plan for what your real family contribution can be (we could call this your RFC). Since your daughter qualifies for Bright Futures, she does have some clear financial safety options. Depending on what you determine to be your RFC, there could be quite a number of less-than-tippy-top institutions that would offer enough merit aid so that she can have a chance at finding a better fit than the large FL publics. One thread worth reading through is: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/848226-important-links-automatic-guaranteed-merit-scholarships.html

Look at Emory for the Emory Scholars program.

Added to our list:
Rhodes in Memphis, TN
Ursinus in PA
Emory

Unfortunately, much to the chagrin of my husband, dd will not consider West Point or USNA. She has lived the military life for 16 years and does not desire to continue to do so. It would be so nice if she would consider it, though!

Thank you, Happymomof1, for the great link. I’ve bookmarked it and will read through it tonight.

Again, so appreciative of everyone’s input.
