I am goint to be a senior next year
and here's my schedule:

AP Calculus AB (I am self-studying and will take the BC test in May)
AP Government
AP Literature
AP Computer Science A
AP Art History
AP Psychology

my question is, does not having a science class look bad? will colleges be, like, why didn't this person take ap bio when her stats clearly show she love science?

I am going to major in biology but I decided to take AP Psych instead of AP Bio because I thought...w/ APAH and AP Lit (AP Lit in our school is infamous for having so much work to do, same with APAH) I thought it would be too much to take AP Bio (pure reading and tests, teacher teaches nothing, psycho).

do u guys think i should just take ap bio? I mean, i have always loved bio...but i am going to major in it anyway, so ap bio gets no credit for me really... and ap psych is definitely easier than ap bio right?

should i just take a science class?

(this yr, i took ap chem and ap physics b)

If you want to be a bio major, you should definitely take AP bio. I thought that I wanted to be a chemist until I took AP chem this year. It will be a lot more useful than AP Art History for sure.

the only thing on my schedule i can change is ap psych

apah and apcs are what i am taking to meet the requirements for graduation.

so should i drop ap psych and take ap bio?

wouldn’t it be too much? anyone have experience?

I don’t have any prior knowledge for APCS so that class is going to be a challenge for me =[

Take Bio and self-study Psycho (well you’re a senior, who, I assume, goes to a school that offers lot of APs so there’s not much of a point in self-studying).

Honestly, as a Junior taking APWH, APUSH, AP Calculus AB (self-studying BC), AP Bio, and is currently self-studying Psychology/Stats/Environmental Sci… I get plenty of sleep to be fully functional and I even live about 2 hours away from school. There’s always a way to manage a heavy course load.

Plus, if it gets too difficult, you can always drop it within the first half of the quarter w/o it being recorded on your transcripts.

Hmm, I think it might be wise to drop either Art History or Gov and take both Bio and Psych in school. You would still have one course that falls into the History category, and I just think that if a college sees that you are interested in the sciences but have not pursued all of the science opportunities at your school, the admission committee may be suspicious.

This is not meant to be a snide comment at all (!), but you may also want to reconsider majoring in Biology if you are not interested enough to take it in high school. Regardless of the teacher, there is nothing preventing you from studying the subject in more depth on your own and applying that outside knowledge to your classwork.

=] nice advice travelbug, i agree. Except, I love to study bio…not listen to a psycho teacher talk about his life during my precious time!! i always read science textbooks as a hobby (plz don’t make fun if me…if gets fun when u get to read what you find fascinating, not do dumb easy questions assigned to you, ya kno?

thanks for the advices-- i need to run to my counselor tomorrow to sign up!!!

:) You’re very welcome (though I definitely don’t claim to be an expert here!)…I love Bio, too, and actually found AP Biology to be more enjoyable than my English, history, and foreign language classes last year- which was shocking to me, as I have always thought of myself as a humanities person! I hope that if you do indeed end up in Bio that your teacher doesn’t drive you too crazy! Best of luck and enjoy the subject!
