advice pls...!!

i don’t know where to start with my applications…

i’m a high school senior from india. i just gave my SATs. i got a pretty decent score of 2300. but i’m really freaking out over my ECs. the problem is that i don’t have too many and i haven’t spent much time on them either. this is the case with most people from india, but i’m not sure if that really makes much of a difference.

anyway, i was wondering if someone could tell me what my chances are of getting into the ivys and tier one colleges.

It is better to say "extremely selective colleges" or even "HYPSM" (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT) than to say Ivies. The Ivies are just eight schools linked by history, although all of them are extremely selective colleges and tier one schools.

That is a very, very good SAT score. If SAT scores were the only consideration, you could apply anywhere. All the stuff on CC about EC's is oriented towards trying to make yourself look unique. This is needed since the number of extremely qualified people who apply to the extremely qualified colleges is four or five times the number that they can actually accept. You are perhaps unique already because you are from India. Are you a US citizen or applying as an international student?

its better to say ivies and tier one colleges than HYPSM because, well, it's broader.

The ivies are linked by history, but also by academic excellence and extreme selectivity.

IMO: When you say ivies, it is specific. When you say HYPSM, it is symbolic of maybe 20 colleges, which is what is really meant.

actually, when you say hypsm...it usually means hypsm

It didn't mean that last year when people were applying. Saying "tier one" might mean what I mean, but I never see that. Lately I've just been typing "extremely selective colleges".
