Seeking advice on giving advice to daughter regarding work issue. Daughter #2, Natalie, graduated in June and started her formal job that same month. She really likes the company, her boss, her teammates, and job, but is struggling with her direct team leader. Her team leader oversees one person Natalie. Natalies three month review with the team leader was short she was asked how she thought things were going and the meeting was considered done. Natalie asked if there was anything she should work on and was told work on quality nothing else. Two weeks later boss said off handily that she may have to go to human resources in regards to Natalies work performance. Yesterday she was told there will be a meeting with human resources at 3:00 pm today (her 5 month employment date). Now I know there are two sides to every story, but here is what I do know: Daughter has always been a hard worker and worked long term internships (where she was offered positions) was editor/coordinator of her senior project and came to this position with glowing recommendations. She is working long days and trying hard to please her team leader. Team leader is a micro -manager and very very career driven. In fact she returned to work in May - 2 1/2 weeks after having her baby. The person my daughter replaced held her job for 5 years - and was there prior to the team leader who has been with the company for four years. I do not know if her company has a probationary period of three months or six months.
My advice to my daughter regarding the meeting has been to
Be receptive. Let them know you want to be successful.
Talk with her boss (not team leader) to see if he will be at the meeting
Ask for mentoring.
Not to discuss this with others.
She is worried and I am worried for her. I would welcome any insight and advice.
