i graduated from college this past december and applied to grad school for the fall for an mph in global health. i was accepted to gw and tulane and waitlisted at emory. as i did my undergrad at tulane i decided i'd like to experience a new place so i sent in my deposit to gw as i was told by emory that it was unlikely that they'd be taking anyone off the waitlist. today, however, i received an email to tell me that while they could not offer me admission for fall 07 they would offer me automatic acceptance for fall 08. emory was (and still is) my first choice school and now i am torn. i've already accepted gw's offer but emory was my dream. i prefer emory's location and academic program but i don't know if i want to wait a year to go....anybody have any advice/opinions/anything?

If I were in that situation, I'd probably feel torn too.

If you were to wait a year and then go to Emory, are there things you can think of doing in that extra year that would seem worthwhile to you? For example, getting job experience you otherwise might not get, or just something that would make that year seem worthwhile to you? If so, waiting a year and then going to your dream school might be the best choice in the long run.

My wife goes to Rollins. That school is amazing. You'll learn from people who have helped eradicate small pox, work on cutting edge food and water borne disease prevention, and do all sorts of other exciting, innovative things.

However, I know nothing about GW's program. However, if your heart is set on Emory, one year is nothing. And as plot93 said, you can experience something unique or professionally enriching.

I agree that waiting might be your best bet.

Best of luck on your decision!!

Travel for a year if you have money or work and travel for a year. Seems like a sweet deal to me.
