Advise for APUSH class.

As of now, I've struggled with taking notes for the class. I have a very rigorous schedule that allows me little time to take extensive notes at home from my textbook (American Pageant).

Until the start of the second term, I took notes on a notebook from the textbook, but my time constraints forced me to take a quicker route--typing. But I soon found that even this method of writing notes down from the textbook was inefficient and quite slow. Therefore, I went out and bought a review book some time back (REA) and am considering buying others to create a comprehensive review.

However, I believe that review books can only be secondary to the textbook, and am wondering whether I should continue taking notes from the American Pageant.

So, what did you all do in the class to do well on the test, and on class assignments? Did you just read the textbook, or did you take personal notes? And if you took personal notes, did you just take it on paper or did you make neat outlines on the computer? (this method just seems over-the-top and unnecessary, not to mention time-consuming)

I just read the book. I didn't really take any notes, but when I did I wrote them down because typing something doesn't cognitively help me remember something.

If you have a decent memory, just use www.course-notes.org
Whenever i didnt have time for notes or reading, i just used that site.... and i ended up with a 5!

My teacher pretty much followed the American Pageant book w/ his lectures so I either read the book and took notes on it the night before, and listened to the lecture on the chapter the next day, or i read the book after the lecture and took notes on just the lectures.
Ideally, I would outline the chapter in my notes (by hand) the night before, and then sit back and relax during my teacher's interesting lectures. And then, w/ my notes already taken, I could simply add interesting perspectives my teacher would bring to a given subject.

A lot of kids in my class just took notes from the lectures and got 4s on the AP test without reading the book. Everyone that did both the readings and lecture notes got 5s.

Do any of your teachers use the American Journey??? I use that book, and I am wondering if others thought it was good for the AP test. Although I am positive that usually any class history book is good, I am still unsure about the American Journey (being that it is new for our school). That is why I bought the REA one and study online notes. But is there anyone that has used the American Journey and can tell me briefly if it is helpfuL?

I never really took extensive notes in class, and often found myslef daydreaming. I just read the book, did all the assignments, and my memory didn't fail me and I got a 5. I didn't use a review book because I knew I wouldnt find the time to actually go through it, but I'd recommend getting one if you think it would help and you have time for it, but first and foremost read and comprehend and try to retain what you read in the textbook.

The APUSH at our school uses the American Journet book. It is the edition with the Indian on the front with silver glitter and things. Yep, that's the book. I would recommend that book and American Pageant for any APUSH class.

sweet thank you for the reply
