Guys I need advise for my Harvard interview :D
Since it is up to me to choose him/her, should I prefer a male to a female interviewer? Or viceversa? Besides, based on your experience is a younger interviewer better than an older one? Thanks ;D

Well, I’m not sexist and I go to a women’s college. That being said, if you’re female I’d go with a male interviewer. And I’d go with the older one. I’m not sure if vice versa works as good as this combination though. I mean if you’re male you probably wouldn’t want an older woman…idk. Do they actually let you chose?

I would personally go with the younger interviewer - his/her Harvard experience was much closer to what your’s would be, and you might get some valuable insights about the university this way.

As for gender, go for the gender you usually ‘click’ better with. Do you generally find it easier to talk to adult men or women? If you are planning to spend some time talking about a technical/sciency field, I would opt for a male interviewer. I am not trying to be sexist but statistically speaking men are more likely to be interested in these fields than women.

Thank you both for your replies!
Actually I have been given a list with 3 possible interviewers. Harvard told me I had to contact one of them and arrange an interview whenever and wherever possible, so I guess the decision is entirely up to my “tastes” :D

Any other comment would be greatly appreciated :)

Edit: I’m a male :D

Here is a novel idea: Why don’t you pick the interviewer whose location is the most convenient transportation-wise?

Most interviewers enjoy their job or they wouldn’t be doing it. You can get lucky or unlucky with any interviewer, and I am not convinced that age or gender are correlated to your statistical chance of being lucky.

The location does not matter since all of them are 200km away from my home. I understand it’s all about luck and perhaps I shouldn’t have created this thread, however I thought your experiences would be of some use to my decision, but I guess (“I hope” is more appropriate) I’ll have a good interview with either of the 3.
Thanks b@r!um !

Have a great day !
