Advise on admissions??!!

I have recently gotten an internship with obamas campaign and it sounds like an amazing opportunity. The field director told me that I would have the change to be in charge of phone banks, campaigning projects, some events, and voter registration. I would also help train volunteers, and we would be volunteering with Planned Parenthood because we partnered up with them for some volunteer work. I was told that I would also be given "a glowing recommendation" from the western field director of the campaign. This was very very exciting for me to hear but a part of me is curious to how much this will impact my chances of admission... I have a slightly low gpa but I'm in a top 100 school according to Newsweek. My gpa is about 3.65 (upward trend?) and 4.3 weighted... I'm not even top 10%.. like top 15%. I don't want to go into too much detail but just to be brief I have about 5 good leadership positions of legit clubs and one of them is part of a youth council for my city where we consult with our local mayor. I'm really into government and politics but also I'm passionate about the environment. I will have taken 9 AP classes by the time I graduate and I have an ACT score that has not yet been determined, yet will be at least a 28 hopefully. I am looking into schools like Umich, penn state, nyu, george washington, american, usc, georgetown, boston university, and boston college. I have no idea where I stand... should I even be applying to these schools??

I would appreciate if someone could let me know where I stand with these schools and if I would be directing my search elsewhere. Thank you.
