Advisor told me to drop the courses since I got an D

I remember some theories from my undergrad psych courses which may apply to the OP: approach-avoidance conflict given the constant “delays” to move forward:

APA Dictionary of psychology: “a situation involving a single goal or option that has both desirable and undesirable aspects or consequences. The closer an individual comes to the goal, the greater the anxiety, but withdrawal from the goal then increases the desire.”

Earlier threads mentioned the OP wanted to change the way people live and get paid because having to finish school and get a career is not a desirable event. Illness and avoiding advisors or advice given upthread gives him more time to not have to deal with becoming an “adult”. Agree with @blossom.

None of the jobs I posted have pre-req’s except for a bachelor’s degree. Which is why I keep suggesting sitting down with your advisor, all your transcripts, and ONE agenda- figure out the fastest way to complete your degree- in virtually anything- so you can launch.

You do NOT need a certificate in fundraising to work in fundraising. You do not need a Master’s in non-profit management to get a degree as a grant writer. So don’t get caught up in what you read online… you just need to finish.

Untreated depression, anxiety, adhd, and autism all can have the psychosomatic complaints he discusses as well.

He will not do better nor feel better because that doesnt fit his narrative or dreams.

Its much easier to say “my feet hurt” or “my doctor says to not lift heavy things” than to say my mental illnesses paralyze me from decision making.

Thank you @2plustrio,

@napnemeanix, many of us have people in our lives who we care for deeply who have similar struggles.

The patterns of your struggles and your inevitable outcomes that you have shared across multiple threads are recognizable to others because they know someone in their lives struggling or it may even be something they have had to work on themselves.

I have noted before you are quick to get defensive and then use humor to deflect realities. You do need to have someone professional who can help you sort out how to successfully navigate your life. I started with the nutrition parts above because there are connections inflammation, stress, anxiety, depression. Once you can rule out some of the gut health issues it makes it easier to determine other needs. You need someone in your life to help you identify the correct professionals you need.

Everyone acts like it’s the end of the world, if I don’t hurry up and finish my bachelor’s. I wanna take my time and learn from my past mistakes, not rush and end up relearning certain subjects due to rushing.

There are student’s who are much older than me going back to college.

Nobody on this site cares if you get your bachelors.
You are the one who stresses about it.

If you don’t like the reflection in the mirror, only you can change it. But again, it’s easier to blame others than to accept you are actually making your own choices.

It’s not the end of the world if you don’t hurry up.

But every month and year that passes is a month and year that you are not working in a professional career (yes I know you get checks from a building you own). Every month and year means that your employer is not contributing to your 401K, or setting aside money to educate your child.

If you didn’t care about ending up in a satisfying career, you wouldn’t be posting here. You’d be like the millions of people who don’t have a college degree, some of whom have 10 reasons why they didn’t go or finish, some of whom don’t care because they weren’t interested, couldn’t afford it, or found something (plumbing, electrician, welder) which paid well without college.

This next step is on you. You’ll either decide that your frequent colds, dropping courses, etc. is another reason why you couldn’t finish college, or you’ll come up with a plan, focus, and make it work.

You have been taking your time for a while now and you could hardly describe your current plan (pass one course this semester since you dropped three, take one course next semester) as a rush!!!

One thing I learned is the world doesn’t owe me anything, once you get comfortable with that concept, than a person can be happy and start painting the picture

Words of wisdom

That passive income I never touch saving it for my for two cupcakes, once they go to college.

I had to put aside my educational stuff in the past and made sure the wifey finished hers first, her dreams were more important and she was number 1. Did everything I can.

Now that I made her a princess, I can take it slow. years of working and taking care of lot of stuff, need to relax and take it slow now

I just wanted to know options, I do read every post and make a comparison

The advice everyone gives is helpful.

My Uni advisor told me to go back to community college and drop Uni.

My advisor told me, I might not have the skills or determination to pursue a BSN as of yet.

Why not pursue an associate in nursing and than once you build experience from that. You transition from RN To BSN, once you have the skills and mindset.

He said I have a lot of interests and my career options are all over the place.

Maybe he’s right or wrong? I don’t know anymore :frowning:

IIRC, in one of your precious threads, someone asked about getting a ADN at the CC…or some other degree at the CC that could lead to a career.

At this point, I think you need significant career counseling. You need to align your interests with a realistic college degree of some sort…or a technical college degree of some sort.

He is based on what you have shared entirely correct. What is really at issue is whether or not you will take the advice?

Your advisor is correct. Until you get your mental health figured out, your journey to a new career will not likely be successful.

I see many similarities between you and a nursing student I just failed. Book smart but a total lack of self and social awareness made them unsafe in the healthcare environment.

I guess I have no choice to take his advice. And go back to community college, this rn is going to burn my final Pell grant since I’m at 400% out of 600%

Use your remaining Pell Grant to get a useful community college degree. I’m not sure why you didn’t do that to begin with.

@kelsmom can someone with a couple of CC degrees continue to get a Pell Grant?

I’ll take his advice, he asked how come you didn’t pursue you’re interest in dental hygiene, I couldn’t answer that question. I use to talk about it 24/7 now, don’t know what happened.

Just an FYI. Dental hygienists stand ALL day long. They have to to do their jobs.

In addition, you are up close to folks who are not wearing masks while you are doing your work. While every dental office asks folks to stay away if sick, we all know that sometimes folks are not yet showing signs of illness but can be contagious prior to symptoms showing.

If these are concerns, you really need to share them with ANY career advisor you work with.

Garbage in, garbage out.

I know about the dental hygiene setting, shadowed a dentist way back, that’s what interested me and was my passion but for some reason died out.

Standing is not an issue now thanks to flat shoes and new insoles

My right side hurts a bit and back from lifting a heavy table all alone. So lifting is an issue, doctors told me not to lift, I still did and now I face the consequence’s.

I always wonder why human’s bodies are designed to be weak, would have been nice to be immune to diseases and become immortal. All thanks to Adam & Eve for cursing this whole world.

I also think you would benefit from a greater degree of self awareness and introspection.

Let’s be honest, do you find credible greasy food as the explanation of 18 illnesses? How many people do you know whose life trajectories were altered based on sore feet? At the age of 30 and as a parent declare its now their turn to “take it slow”? Others have alluded to your mental health. I am in no position to judge nor is it my place to do so

I would however strongly recommend you consider the totality of your situation and your seeming propensity to accept advice consistent with your wishes and ignore that which you don’t like.

Good luck.
