Which is more competitive in terms of admission? I only have a 1330 sat. Which would I have a better shot at?

You know they're totally different programs, right?

Since AEM is one of the most popular majors in Cornell, I assume it's more difficult to get in, especially since majors affect CALS admissions much more so than CAS. However, CAS seems to be generally more difficult to get into than CALS, so it's really a tossup. But seriously, these two degrees are not substitutes for each other.

both are hard to get into. aem is very selective due to the large number of applicants, and any major in CAS is hard to get into as well. both are different programs, as econ focuses mostly on, well, economics, including calculus based econ after the intro courses, and aem focuses on business (with courses in accounting, marketing, and some in econ as well). While aem does have econ courses, it is econ as applied to marketing, or global finance, and the intermediate econ course i was required to take was not calculus based, but based on policy analysis. If you are unsure if aem is for you, i would apply to arts (unless you are a nys resident) because that will provide greater flexibility to change majors to one you like if you decide econ is not the major you want.

you should also consider PAM in Hum Ec... especially if you are a NYS resident...

I am a NYS resident with a measly 1330 sat.

hmmm.. which would be easiest to get accepted to?

bump......

apply for Heop, if your parents income allow you to do so

nope.. i don't think it will (they make 110,000+)

opinions? Do I have a better chance at Human Ec or CALS vs CAS because of I'm a NYS resident?

your chances aren't necessarily better or worse at either... just choose the one you prefer/ think you are better suited for...

hm.. any other opinions?

For the record, a NYS resident has an equal chance at CALS, HUMAN EC, and CAS?

mikeBtarns: yes

what are your ranks in high school and your other stuff like EC's?

My ECs are very strong and my rank is top 3%.

Sorry, I don't want to go into specifics.

i had a similar situation, couldnt decide between those two schools and majors.

ahhhhh....

you guys have only 2 more days though.....
shouldn't youguys made up your mind by now???

surely, but i didn't :/

anyone else? I'm pretty sure I'm going to do CAS. This way I won't be limiting myself in case I want to switch majors. However, I won't get the instate price :/

I just don't want to be rejected and end up feeling like I should have applied to one of the "easier to get into" schools.

easier to get into?... didn't we already discuss this?... pick the one you like the most... it's not a very hard thing to do

"I'm pretty sure I'm going to do CAS. This way I won't be limiting myself in case I want to switch majors. "

I want to go to CAS. If I get rejected, naturally I would speculate whether I had a better chance at CALS or Human EC.

Anyway, thanks for the advice guys :)
