AEO Math Course Selection.

Wazzapnin'.

I need a bit of help with selecting a math class at NC State. I'll be taking it over the summer through the AEO program. I would like your opinion on the difficulty and the amount of work involved in some of the classes.

I have finished BC Calculus. My top choice at the moment is Linear Algebra. The other choice I would have would be Multivariable Calculus. I see that there are many options I can choose within Linear Algebra, such as Elementary Linear Algebra, Introduction to Linear Algebra and Matrices, and just Linear Algebra.

I am not familiar with the details of these three classes, as I am accustomed to just plain old Linear Algebra generally coming after BC Calculus. But, when I look through the course descriptions, Introduction to Linear Algebra and Matrices seems to best match what I had in mind.

Thus, my question is what course should I take? Should I even take Linear Algebra. or should I go with Multivariable Calculus? I have watched MIT's OCW Linear Algebra video lecture and it seems that I would enjoy it more than Calculus III. What would you recommend? Is there a class that is notorious for being difficult that I should try to avoid?

Thank you very much for your advice.

~ CT.

Any advice? :)

What is your opinion on taking both Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra at once [since they are corequisites]? Would you discourage it?

man i have no idea... i've been looking at a lot of calculus text books and multivariable calculus is not much of a step up from bc... as for linear algebra, I don't know enough about this class at state to give you any advice...

try talkin to your high school calculus teacher/math department

best of luck

It is a very good idea to take both at the same time. A lot of vector calculus in Multivariable Calculus involves Linear Algebra (especially determinants).
