My son has been accepted to RPI and CalPoly for the aero engineering program. He wants to design orbital structures like habitats or satellites for NASA. Does RPI aero program have anything like that?

I would check out the department webpage..

but I remember going to a lecture a while ago were a professor was doing computer modeling of the space station. It was interesting because he had to make sure the structure was stable, even when parts were moving (such as solar panels).

I also remember seeing at least one course on the subject, .. so they do have somethings along those lines, but I don't know how big of a program it is. My guess is the only schools with major programs along those lines would be space-grant universities like MIT and Caltech.
