Aero major at Stanford or petroleum major at Texas A&M

Which would give me the most opportunity to be successful, as in important at a company? Aero major at Stanford or petroleum major at Texas A&M

Neither. Choose what interests you.

That

The one in which you are not unemployed. Google “oil prices”.

What everyone is trying to say is choose what you like. They are VERY different. Predicting the future job market is a fools game. All engineers are reasonably employable and make reasonable money. You’ll do MUCH better in school and in life if you pick something that you are excited about rather than simply tolerating something. That may not be either Aero or Petrol. I can tell by your statement about the Ivy programs that you have a lot to learn. Back up a step and learn what every field actually does. Then approach it from that direction and you’ll be fine. Good luck.

I know little about aerospace engineering so I won’t comment. I am not an engineer of any sort but have friends who are petroleum engineers and have friends in other parts of oil industry. Do your own research about both but my understanding is one reason petroleum engineering has such a high starting salary it that is requires much more field time on rigs at sea or land, particularly early in ones career. This does not appeal to some who prefer more desk work. Had I chosen to be an engineer, that would appeal to me. Do your reserach and match the job to your personality.
