I am going to major in Aerospace Engineering so long as the college I go to offers it. However, if I go to one that doesn't (i.e. UCB) what is a viable alternative that will get me a job in the same field, and prepare me for a graduate degree in AE should I choose to pursue? I know mechanical engineering is pretty close, what about Engineering Physics? Or some other course that I don't know about?

Also, how viable would it be to double major with AE?

Mechanical engineering is definitely the closest.
Engineering Physics is fine. Applied math would also be ok.

Double major is generally a waste of time. You could get a masters degree in the same time as a double major, which would take you a lot further.

What if the double major was very close, such as AE and mathematics? Would it still take considerably more time? Do you know any majors that could be linked to AE/ME to finish w/in four years?

Sounds like you decided you want to do a double major before you decided on WHY.
I suppose physics and ME have some overlap? Mathematics is probably the closest that I can think of, though…

No. ME is the same subject with different example problems. It is by far the closest to aerospace. They are almost the same degree.

if you go to UC Davis it is only 1 more class to get the double mech/aero major
but that is unusual for most colleges, it would seem…

mech is definitely the closest to/practically as good as an aero degree from what i’ve seen

Hi
How about Mechatronics Engineering?
I have heard it is kinda directly related to aero.

Even I am looking for a masters in aero, and presently pursuing electrical.
So, mechatronics is most probably the alternate for me.
what do you think?
