I have thought of the idea of becomming an aerospace engineer many times, but I am always worried about what the future will hold. Is there good job security when compared to other engineering specialties? Also, what is the working atmosphere like? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

well, seeming we're in a war that is greatly aided by planes and the space industry is being boosted by privateers, there's probably hope...they're building only a few planes every 5-10 years, but the space race holds superb promise...also, you can work on things such as weather balloons, rockets, missles, ect, all of which industries are booming

Also, how is the pay? I don't really want to "live large", but I don't want to worry about money too much either. Is the pay good when compared to other engineering specialties? How much will having an MBA affect my salary?

And another thing: is it easy to find a job right after graduation with a bachelor's degree?

And also, what about outsourcing? Does it/will it hit the aerospace industry hard? Thanks a lot.

From my experience in the defense industry, the pay for AE is comparable to the other engineering disciplines. An MBA may help you get promoted if you are pursuing management within engineering but it is not encouraged at work for technically oriented engineers.

The defense industry hires a lot of AEs so the job market is comparable to the other eningeering disciplines, although I see more EE and MechEs in the work place. I don't believe there is much outsourcing in the AE industry. You can do some research on this.

One more question: is it worth it to pursue a masters in aerospace after you already have a bachelors?

Aerospace engineering is one of those cyclic industries....

One minute it is booming, and the next the industry takes the fall...

Personally, I believe we are in a good time at the moment. However, we must be willng to acceptthe fact that it can change very quickly!
