My son's not here to comment himself (he's at NASS now) but in the short time he was home he said there was very little running to do other than CFA. No formation marching either (they just walked everywhere) so AFA might be easier than NASS that way. You'll need to get your voice ready - lots of repeating / memorizing stuff. But if you survived NASS then I think he would tell you that AFA will be easy.

First day is the same - a few hours of frisbee, etc. getting aclimated to elevation and new freinds. Lots of chicken for dinners. CFA, but not one that counts. Push-ups for everything that you don't do right (or your if someone in your squad screwsup). Reasonable amount of down time including the "prom". Still needed every pair of socks and underwear he can carry. They get a nice carryon bag, briefcase, alarm clock, and photo package so he'll have a way to carry it all home too. Enjoy!

S was B-1.....Doolie day was weds. including eating meals with your eyes on the eagle, sing the AF fight song, many other things and lots of push ups. Don't forget your paper at lunch...you'll be reading napkins otherwise. He did not but several others did.

You can expect a strained voice after Doolie Day, but aside from that, it's not too bad. Actually, it was really fun. Be prepared to memorize lots of stuff and have to repeat it on command. Also, be prepared for Push ups, pull ups, flutter kicks, wall sits, etc. while you are getting "beat" in the hallways by the upperclassmen. Keep in mind that it's just a game for the cadre and you'll do fine (except for having a hoarse voice, mine is still recovering :) )
