I applied to the USAFA Summer Session back in January and have not heard from them? Does anyone know when they will send out notifications? Has anyone heard from them (accepted or rejected)???

Last year I applied January 3rd, the day that it opened up, and I heard back in early February (like the first week).

I also applied in January, still waiting for something... But I believe we should find out by mid-April at the latest. They are sending a bunch of actual appointments out now so perhaps they send the SS acceptances during the same time. Not really sure though, good luck!

I read on the forum someone got an email...does the acceptance for SS come USPS or email???

I have heard that it comes both ways, last year mine came by e-mail first and then an information packet followed

Yes, email and then snail mail.

Yep, I got an email from my ALO weeks before I got the packet in the mail.
Hope you get in, it was a lot of fun! :)

The website says:

Selections for the program will be made the last week in March with notification to the students of selection or non-selection by the first week of April 2008.

So, they're selecting next week, and we all should hear in two weeks or so.

That is what I saw as well.....I was getting worried all of the people that have heard on the boards so far I was feeling low.....

Hope remains!!!!

Haha,

Hope remains!!!!

I think the thing that I'm looking for is just to have the preliminary confidence that we are good enough to make it into the Summer Seminar... Just for an "atta boy" pat on the back to keep our hopes up.

My ALO said that it was harder to get into the Summer Seminar than it was to get into the Academy. Do you think that is really true?

It may be more competitive on a different scale I think... For actually getting in the Academy, you need to be qualified on many aspects (DodMERB, PFT, Nomination) but for the seminar you just have to look good on paper (academics, and sports), so perhaps it is harder for some people to get into the SS, but maybe easier for others.

Agree with SemperExcelsius' comment above. Last year, S was declined for SS (and we were also told by our ALO that it was more difficult than getting in to the Academy). It served as a "wake up" for S that he had much to do to earn an appointment to USAFA. He's worked incredibly hard, took challenging classes, multiple SATs/ACTs and prepared intensively for CFA and nomination interviews. His appointment to USAFA 2012 arrived last week!

Please don't be discouraged if you are not accepted for SS. It might mean you'll need to work a little harder to get to the Academy, but with the right preparation you can still reach your goal.

Generally half of those who attend summer seminar will end up attending the academy...so roughly 350 of 1250 Basics in an average class. About 80 slots per year are reserved for prior enlisted. Not sure how many in a typical class come from the prep school, or like programs.

My son was also told by his ALO during his SS interview that it was "more difficult" to get into SS than the AFA. It was during a discussion on the session dates -- S has been told he is accepted for Boys State, but it conflicts with one of the summer seminar sessions. He asked, "Should I go to Boys State, or the SS?" The ALO's answer was to go to the SS because "...it was more difficult..." etc.

For what it's worth, Son attended Navy Summer Seminar.

Never attended Air Force Summer Seminar.

Now is a recognized 4th class cadet.

My ALO called me a few nights ago to set up a meeting for me to ask any questions I had. In regards to SS, he said that they still hadn't made their decisions yet but will soon. I hope they are fast at making up their minds!

Well, if what the website said is true. Everyone who applied should be hearing back sometime this week.

GOT IT! Heard back today (I live in CO, so maybe pretty early compared to others). Good Luck everyone! You should be hearing back really soon...

Congrats,
Did you hear via E-Mail or Post?
I hope to be there also.........
