I applied and got accepted to spend my entire junior year studying abroad in Switzerland through AFS. I am completely ecstatic, and I am so excited to be able to experience a new culture and become fluent in a language. However, even if I could take the SAT's in Switzerland, it would be harder to prepare for them, and my score probably won't be as high as I would like it to be because of being immersed in a foreign language. I am planning on taking the SAT next month, but I'm not sure how well I would do. I wouldn't be able to take any AP classes, but I might be able to take an AP exam or two. When I return senior year, I could take a lot of AP classes to catch up and possibly retake the SAT. I would also be missing out on extracurriculars, and I would have to step down as President of a club and miss out on other leadership positions. I was also planning on competing in a science fair, but I wouldn't be able to do that.

Junior year is supposed to be the most important in regards to college applications, and I'm concerned about how much I would be able to make up my senior year for studying abroad. I'm planning on applying to some ivy leagues and smaller LACs, but since I'm a sophomore, I'm not sure which schools I'm applying to yet. Studying abroad is definitely something I want to do, though. Would it positively or negatively affect my college applications?
