eh… I still say Ghirardelli milk chocolate squares with caramel inside = godsend.

Affirmative action in its current state is absolutely disgusting. I don’t see how anyone could delude themselves otherwise. How can you justify that an affluent, black youth gets a boost in college admissions over a white youth with poor circumstances?

I have a friend who lives in one of the richest and nicest neighborhoods in the United States. His father went to Harvard Medical School. He’s African American. And he will most certainly receive an extra look by admissions officers in every school he applies to.

He is not disadvantaged! He did not have to struggle in the least! His house is five times larger than mine, and he went to private school all throughout his childhood.

I’m a white male, and valedictorian of my class. However, I can assure you that my friend will have an easier time getting into a top college than I will, SOLELY because of the color of his skin.

How is that right? How is that even moral? Affirmative action should ONLY benefit those who have had disadvantaged childhood, NOT a distant, disadvantaged past (racial discrimination). Socioeconomic affirmative action is the way to go. Otherwise, it’s just wrong.

^Damn straight.

I love white chocolate!!!
Mmmmmmmm
so good

but marine bio is right ghirardelli is so good so is Godiva

^^^ You do recognize our area has the wealthiest African-Americans in the country, right?

And besides, some the wealthy African-Americans academically in this area could compete on an academic standpoint with their other ethnic counterparts.

Yes, I realize that. However, it’s still unfair that they’ll receive a leg up. While they may be competitive, I’m sure there are (and I’ve witnessed) instances where the black, less qualified applicant gets in over the more qualified white/asian applicant (even if the black applicant was a competitive applicant without URM status).

You do realize most black people aren’t that rich, right?

You must be mentally handicapped if you believe that sort of thing happens that frequent.

^^ Man, don’t be salty at that. It comes off as elitist to me.

Please keep all discussions of race, affirmative action, etc. in college admissions on this thread:
