Affordable BFA Acting/MT program for international students

Hi, I’m from Brazil and I’ve been looking for a good BFA Acting or MT program, but the universities I’ve found are jsut too expensive! What are some good universities that have affordable tuition for international students? What about scholarships, is it too difficult to get it?

Would you be interested in studying in the UK? There are several schools there that actively recruit international students.(Look at the pinned list at the top of this forum.) My son is currently at RCS studying musical theater. He’ll receive a BA degree in 3 years…vs 4 years for a US degree. (His BA is exactly like a BFA degree.) The tuition there is comparable-- and sometimes cheaper-- than many US schools when you do the math over the 3 vs 4 years. Scholarships are given, too, but I’m not sure who gets them or how many are available. It probably depends on each school.

Texas state university is a very hard program to get into but is quickly rising to the top because of it’s cost. One of the cheapest programs out there

@Carolcbp‌ - Are you only looking at “top tier”, expensive private and state schools? Is the cost of traveling to and living in the U.S. what is cost prohibitive for you? Don’t know how it works for international students, but do you have outstanding grades, stats, test scores? Most of the best scholarships are given for those kinds of criteria. Do you find the additional “international” cost to be prohibitive? Who knows, but perhaps if you look on the scholarship pages or contact the financial aid offices of the schools, perhaps there are scholarships specifically for “students from Brazil who want to study theater/music.” Or is it the actual cost of the MT programs in the U.S.? There are some VERY affordable MT programs in the U.S., but they are not always the ones listed in the “top 10” on this forum.

Again, I’m not sure how this translates for international students, but if you look on this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1631040-sticker-shock-cost-of-attendance-from-financial-award-letters-p1.html
and look for state schools that offer a low differential between in-state and out-of-state tuition, you may find a program that is also a “bargain” for international students. Of course, there are many programs not listed on this thread that might also be affordable for you.

Latina students may be VERY attractive to some U.S. programs. Don’t give up on them just because of what you find on public websites, and even this forum. I wager that the majority of us on this particular forum are not what is considered “ethnically ambiguous”. If you ARE - or if you are DECIDEDLY Latina-looking, that may be a “golden ticket” for you, even at some of the most prestigious programs. This has been mentioned as a definite advantage for Asian students wishing to pursue MT in the States, but from my admittedly limited knowledge of how things work in American theater I understand the same can also true for aspiring Latina(o) actors/singers/dancers. Good Luck!
