Affording NYU&NYC

My dad is a pastor and my mom teaches writing (but isn’t a professor) at a local university. I live in a small town in the South, where the cost of living isn’t high. NYU is my dream school, but I don’t know if I could afford it, or even afford being in NYC. Money is kinda strained in my family, being lower middle class and having one younger sister, but we’re not poor.
Would I be able to afford NYU, or would the loans not be worth it?

@FrankieSaysRelax I’m planning on transferring to NYU the Spring of 2017. NYU has always been a school that I wanted to attend, but I also do realize that it is EXTREMELY expensive to go there. I’ve heard that they are stingy with financial aid money and that transfer students don’t get any scholarships. Even after spending time at a CC, how could I still afford 2.5 years at NYU. Also… what outside scholarships should I be looking into because I’ve heard that sites like Fastweb has like a 1 in a million chance that you would actually win something. And how much total debt did you go into after NYU?
