Afraid of letting everyone down...

I like Ohio - mom's response. Just list the schools you are applying to (making sure that you have some safety schools in there) and tell them that it just depends on where you get accepted and if any scholarship money is available to afford some of the more expensive ones - "sure I'd love to go to X school, but that might not be possible, but I'll work it out where ever I end up."

As a parent who has watched three kids go through this process, I am careful about what I ask a college senior. At the very most I like to say "What are you thinking about doing next year?" I know my kids absolutely hate more specific questions and I have always advised them to give vague answers ("I've applied to a wide range of schools and haven't quite decided what I want yet.") until they have made their final choice.

lol, i've applied to quite a few med programs and i've already been rejected at my top three choices...so i mean, yeah the dissappointment and expectations are there, but for the majority of people, i think that dissappointment stems from yourself rather than the general public

Yeah....that feeling sucks, a lot. The thing is, my family kind of thinks I won't be able to get into the schools I applied to, and I kind of want to prove them wrong and show them I CAN do whatever I set my mind to...so it's a different situation, but I can totally relate.

Wow and here I thought only I was in this situation. My sister and I are the first in our family to go to college, and it's a big deal for my parents since they never graduated from high school (immigrants) and have to work 7 days a week for less than 32K a year. However, my sister didn't do so well in school and got into UCR because at the time they accepted anybody above a 3.0 gpa. As a result, my parents want me to go to what they feel to be a "good" school. Although part of me wants to go to a prestigious school such as Penn, I know with my stats it wont be that easy to get in. I just want to go to a decent school that isn't "boring." My first choice school is Pomona, but I got a horrible gpa my first semester of senior year from taking 5 aps and now my prospects look dim. I'm just hoping that I won't disappoint my parents by having to go to what they think is a "low" school"...
