I see people talking about several clubs on Bates, but most of the things that I see there are for either singing, dancing, or sports. What can I do while in school to try and up my resume for law school?

Are there even any law firms in Lewiston to intern with?

To actually answer your question, albeit belatedly, you have somehow missed not only Bates’s most famous club, but the most pertinent to your question.

The Brooks Quimby Debate Council ([Brooks Quimby Debate Council | Home](<a href=“Brooks Quimby Debate Council | Bates College”>http://batesdebate.org/)) is nationally and internationally ranked in debate. Debate is probably the most useful activity to partake in if considering a career in law. It is impossible to overemphasize how much of an asset it will be.

If you’re looking at small liberal arts colleges like Bates, you won’t find a better debate team. Bates is ranked 25th in the world, top among undergraduate-only institutions (international debate allows grad students from all the best schools --Oxford, Sydney, Cambridge, Trinity, Harvard, Yale, etc (Check out the rankings here [World Debate Website](http://flynn.debating.net/colmmain.htm)).

We’re also the smallest ranked school on the American circuit. Definitely consider checking out our website for more information, or message me. I’d be glad to chat. Come to practice if you visit!

I know multiple people who have or are interning there… So doubtless you can find opportunities! Bates has a great service to help students find internships during breaks also.
