Last year the package were mailed out around Dec. 17th. It was a day or two before I received my acceptance package that I was able to log on to Agora. All those accepted were given access to Agora, those denied or WL were not allowed to Agora. You with need your ID number that was given to you following your application ackowlwdgement.

ben51094- so you were able to access Agora the entire time while waiting for the acceptance letter, right? The system did not deny your log on?

Did it say “accepted” in the status box at some point? Was it after you received the acceptance letter or before the letter came?

No I was not able to access the portal the entire. About 2 days before I received my acceptance letter I was able to gain access. I knew that I was accepted by reviewing the posts from last year.

Go check out some past posts by searching Agora portal.

I cannot remember exactly what it said, but I believe Financial Aid, and Deposit for class of 2014 were listed.

Changes to the Agora Portal occurred around the 13th/14th last year. You will know if you are accepted by the new ‘tabs’ as others have referred. They really are just new lines on your portal page after you login. It is very obvious they are ‘new’ and that you are being offered a spot for the incoming class.

Dear All : Some things to remember about the Boston area college community dynamics at this time of the year. First, remember that Boston College has to postal mail about 23,000 parcels for accepted, wait-listed, and denied applicants. The logistics of getting that material into the mail system over a 48-72 hour window is mind-boggling enough. However add to that the fact that dozens of area colleges are doing the exact same thing : Boston University, Northeastern, Harvard, and many, many more. Hence, if your package does not precisely arrive on the same date as the applicant down the street, do not try to read anything more into the process than the timing coming through the postal system.

Shortly, the annual debate about “what do the Agora tabs mean?” will begin. Generally, the options available in the Agora portal between accepted and wait-listed/denied students will differ. These differences too will depend on the timing of various system batch-runs at Boston College, but has been an accurate predictor of acceptance before your package arrives.

Just to add a little more context to scottj’s post: BC has rather old computers systems, which work great, but are slow. Practically everything having to do with admissions/financial aid/housing/etc. runs off of different servers. They sync at night. Thus, Admissions may enter “Accept” into their system on Monday, but the Agora links may will not update until a day or two later.

BC also batch processes mail. Unlike some colleges which back up a truck (18 wheeler) and deliver all mail to the USPS on the same day, BC sends the letters to USPS over several days. Again, that has nothing to do with admissions priority. It’s just random processing of thousands of apps.

I don’t know if it necessarily means anything ~ It was just a new thing so I was surprised. Please post if anyone else had a similar sign on prompt.

I also didn’t have an agreement. However I called the Office of Admission last week and they told me that we should all receive notification by today (Monday). Has anyone started to see the new tabs yet? My Agora is the same as always. Getting nervous, I got into Brandeis and Babson already, but an acceptance from BC would be the best yet. Good luck everyone!
