AH I'm confused by my ACT/SAT scores! Help please?

So I've gotten back both my ACT scores and my SAT scores, and I'm kind of confused. I looked at a chart that says that the scores generally correlate, with the SAT being perhaps slightly higher. (2140 and 32). However, the percentiles are different. The ACT score is in the 99th percentile, while the SAT is definitely not.

So, which is better? Is the ACT percentile just a result of different types of kids taking it, or is it actually a better score?

It really depends on the schools that you’re applying to. If you’re applying to a school in the middle of the US (with the exception of a few), I would probably use the SAT because the adcoms there are tired of seeing every applicant submitting an ACT score. Show them some variety.

But if you’re applying to a school with lets say 90% of applicants submitting SAT and 15% submitting ACT (overlap because some submit both) like Swarthmore for instance, the middle 50% SAT is about 2100-2300+ while the middle 50% ACT is around 29-33. As you can see, your ACT falls much higher up percentage wise so submitting it would be more beneficial.

okay, thank you so much!
