Is UCLA a safety for OP? I thought it was hard to get in as well, even with great scores.
I don’t know about just Emory, but most schools don’t have associated 2-year colleges. And most schools take ED bailouts pretty seriously, I’ve heard. If they put you in Oxford’s RD pool, Oxford could still reject you.

Also, do your parents have the money to pay for all these schools? Can they pay the EFC, and do the schools meet need?

Hey guys,
First of all thank you so much for the help and feedback you guys are providing. I know I made a really dumb decision to apply to Emory for ED even though I wanted U of C or WUSTL, but that’s done and in the past. Now I have to make the decision if I should continue to take the risk of rejecting Emory and waiting for the other schools. And happymomof1, money isn’t really a problem for my family so yea my parents are willing to pay. And I know I got lucky with Emory, but… will my GPA really take me down that much? Cause I’ve been reading the Past Official RD Results on CC for U Chicago, WUSTL, JHU and most of the students who got accepted had around a 3.8 and around 2300 (or 33/34 on ACT) and when I compared ECs I thought mine were a lot better (in my opinion of course). I have an SAT of 2370 and pretty good SAT II scores (again in my opinion). Will my GPA of 3.56 really bring me down that much even though I may have better test scores and ECs (in my opinion) then most of those admitted to these schools for RD??? Please understand that I’m not trying to brag but this is an honest question and I’ve been wanting to ask it for a really long time!! :)

I think in most cases schools care more about GPA than about test scores, since GPA is essentially the evaluation of one or two dozen teachers over three and a half years, and indicates whether you WILL work, not just if you have the brainpower for it. In your case, perhaps GPA is less important, not because of your ECs and SATs so much as because whatever slump you were in for 9th and 10th, you seem to have gotten over.

But the thing is, people with better stats than yours get rejected from those schools. COULD you get in? Sure. But being good enough isn’t the same as being the good enough person they choose. A lot of these schools reject more people who are good enough than they accept. Look at the EA threads for UChicago, Caltech, etc. - see some of the people who didn’t make it. You really do need a safety, and it really is cheating to use Oxford / Emory as that safety.

Thank you very much for the response GeekMom63. And your completly right about students with better stats than me getting rejected. But I just wanted to know my chances to get in. Would it help my chances if said that I go to a school that is ranked in the top 40 in the nation. And about the safety school situation, I feel really bad for those who may have gotten defferred from EA at Emory because of me. But even if Oxford/Emory do get screwed up I would still have UC Davis and UC Riverside as my backup.

Really, at this point, there is no point worrying about whether you’ll get in to those schools. If you’ve already been accepted to UC Davis and UC Riverside, just know that you’re going to have options in April and move on with your life. Stressing over it won’t help, and asking for opinions from people who can’t possibly know will only add to the stress.

Good luck, do the right thing, and enjoy your last semester of high school.

Thank you GeekMom63. I know there isn’t really a point to chancing, but I just want to accumlate all the knowledge of college admissions from fellow CC ers. So far I’ve learned plenty from the help of every who posted in this thread. I mean I got my Emory thing nearly completly cleared up thanks to those who posted here. Even though they might not accuratly know my chances, there are some like parents and other students who have been through this process (either themselves or with their child) and they would have some idea of how I would match up with others that are applying to the same colleges.

Thank you guys for the responses. ANd RML, yea ur probably right, but not really interested in UCB, mostly interested in Uof C, WUSTL, and bs/md. And my fall back schools are probably going to be UC Davis, UC Riverside, and Emory/Oxford. And lakeawead, I like Emory, but I still want to see to I can do better. And ■■■■■?? I have no idea why a senior would ■■■■■ at this point in his high school career!! ;)
