I was set on getting a MacBook, until I read these forums.. now it just doesn't seem worth it.
I'm not a gamer, or an engineer, and probably anything would be an improvement I have now (one of those cheap $340 Toshiba's...) and I'm a CC now, but switching over to Uni next term and want to get something a little more portable (not notebook or "mini" just not freakin' heavy), looks good (mine is again, one of those glossy, just unattractive clunky Toshiba's..), and obviously works great (doesn't lag ALL the time.. like this one).

Any ideas? Oh, and a great webcam would be a huge plus (actually what pulled me into Macs...).

Price limit: $600-800

Oh, and I will not, ever, ever again buy a Dell!

In general you are just to vague.

my recommendations:
- Look at laptops from Asus and Lenovo
- Find models that seem interesting to you
- Ask for more information on those models here.

Probably your best general bet. Lenovo thinkpads aren’t on the pretty side but it is more so due to wanting to keep in line with a design thats worked for a long time. Asus has quite a range, and if you’re looking for battery life the U series would be great.

The only thing you have that wouldn’t really be a given is a great webcam, for basic economic reasons.

Thanks! I guess it’s just because I don’t need anything too specialized - just middle of the range. I’m not a big fan of lenovo’s look, but I may check them out in person before I make any decisions. And Asus is pretty appealing, I’m off to do some research, I’m sure I’ll have more questions!

ASUS ftw. Their website sucks for browsing through stuff though

+1 for ASUS, they have great laptops.
