Summer Programs:
Attending Summer Ventures in Science in Math this summer, which is a state-funded month-long program where I stay in a college dorm and study science and math. It's prestigious in that only 300 students get selected out of the 1500 that apply (this is what a rep told me). This summer, I studied Flight Science in which I built rockets from scratch and launched them 300 meters in the air while studying the logistics behind achieving maximum flight time and the physics associated.

Hey Mr. M it’s Daniel. Is that your official class rank after junior year? Because I have the same weighted GPA as you.

Most likely rejections at Johns Hopkins BME and Duke ED

I would recommend ED at Vandy given current stats.

Thanks!
Anyone else?

Bump?
I’ll chance back anyone who posts a link!

GPA is pretty decent, ACT/SAT could use a little work. Your EC’s look solid, but as a potential biomedical engineering student, you will want to make yourself stand out maybe a little more. Quick question, what is HOSA?

Duke- don’t apply ED, just my advice, reach
Vanderbilt ED- ED-in, RD-low reach
Emory- don’t know much, but I’d say in
UNC-Chapel Hill- in
Johns Hopkins- reach (but still within grasp)
Princeton- reach (I hate it when people say reach for everyone. You have a pretty solid shot in my opinion)

I only chanced for the once I knew about. I live in WI, and while I’m not applying to Madison, I too have a great interest in biomedical engineering. Madison has a great program and I’d say you’d get in if you tried. I don’t know if you want to leave the warm confines of NC however!

Thanks! And yeah, Calculus isn’t my strong suit haha. I’m retaking both ACT/SAT this October for a 33+/2200+. And HOSA stands for “Health Occupations Students of America”, so it’s pretty much a medical club as I want to pursue medicine after undergrad.

Bump please?

I would say your chances are pretty low for Princeton, John Hopkins, and Duke. I say go with Vandy for ED. Solid chances for Emory, UNC, and UVA. Most likely in for NC State. Also you have an alright shot at UPenn, I’d say.

Can you please elaborate on why my chances are low for Duke? I know my scores aren’t “amazing” but they’re pretty up to par, and my ECs are pretty solid, right?

Good luck getting your SAT’s to 2200+. That’ll help you out a ton.

NC State is a safety. I have a lot of experience with UNC from an in-state perspective…you’ll get in there as well.

Duke ED is an uncertainty, but at this point I’d say deferral > rejection. Not too many people realize that Duke is incredibly demanding and competitive for admission.

You have a good shot at Emory, Vanderbilt, Case, GT and Wake Forest.

UVA is very difficult for out-of-staters. You might get in, you might not.

Most likely a rejection from Hopkins since you’re interested in biomedical engineering.

Rejection from Penn and Princeton. An SAT boost will help, but there’s still no way to know for sure.

Thanks!
Anyone else pleaseeee? I’ll chance back if you post a link!

Bumpppppppppppp

Can I not get any love? :(

Don’t ED at Vandy. You can probably get in RD at that school.
Is there any particular reason why your grades fell Junior year? If yes, make sure to explain it to your GC. This is very important.
Retake either the ACT or the SAT (btw, without 2250+ Duke ED is a serious reach) not both, because you need to get your subject tests in order too. Take one or two more that you’re slightly familiar with and try for 750+ (aim for 800 and you’ll probably get it) in both.
If you can get everything in order you have a great shot at Emory, Vandy and Wake Forest.
Look into schools like Northwestern and Tufts (around that level) as well and keep a couple of safeties.
Good luck!

When looking at medians for Duke you need to factor in that it’s a big sports school and they bend big time for athletes. They do for legacies too. When you get to the unhooked, most will have stats above the 75th percentile.

Getting an extremely high score is not as important as many people seem to think. If you have a 30+ ACT or a 2050+ SAT and a 3.75+ GPA, you can be considered a competitive applicant. It becomes luck from there. The best thing you can do is write a really strong essay. Duke has a relatively high ED acceptance rate. If that is your top choice, I would definitely go for it. Good luck!
Chance me?

^^ That’s incorrect. A 2050 SAT score is only competitive for applicants with serious hooks (URM, Athletic Recuit, Development Case etc.).

I think Vandy ED is your best option. And yea Princeton Dreams is right you need at least a 33+ ACT or 2200+ SAT to be a “competitive” applicant at Duke. Good luck

chance back plz
