Ahhhhh! What Should I Do?

I have recently been accepted to the Columbia Summer Program for High School students in the NYC: Urban case study program. I really am passionate about attending. It'd give me time around Columbia, my first choice school, a little independance from my parents and sister, and plus, it'd be another extracirricular to put on my app.

But, alot of problems are coming to my family's attention. My father, states that as a 15 year old I am too young to navigate the city (I'll be commuting from New Jersey). He states that "I grew up in New York it's unsafe, you'll get mugged, killed, ECT. In addition, my family has to pay $1,500 for an emergency tooth replacement. My parents are divorced and are suppose d to pay $1,400 each, but problems are arising on both sides.

Any comments and/or suggestions? I am very passionate about the program. BTW There are no scholarships available

Do you have savings of your own or the potential to make money? Perhaps your parents would be more willing to pay if you offerred to contribute some of the costs, thereby demonstrating your own interest. That would also demonstrate your maturity. Since there are plenty of 15 year olds who LIVE in the city, I think your father's argument is based more on protectiveness than any real danger (there certainly isn't any in morningside heights).

Well, can't u have access to some loans, help from friends? Have you tried contact Columbia for alternatives?

When i got my acceptance letter from Columbia, they sent me a brochure with a lot of financial aid options. Didn't you get one?
