At my school, we are in the process of picking high school classes for 9th grade. A few weeks ago I got accepted into the AICE program at my future HS. I picked:
AICE General Paper
Geometry Honors OR Algebra 2 Honors/Pre-AICE Math 3
Pre-AICE Biology
Health Opportunities through Phys Ed (required)
Freshman Seminar/Leadership Techniques (required)
Spanish 1
AICE Thinking Skills
What should I expect AICE coursework to be like? Does anyone have experience with these classes?
They’re harder than honors classes and follow the Cambridge pre-U/AS curriculum, but the classes you’re taking (General paper and Thinking skills) are “preparatory” to that high level of irgor. So it’s not like you’d be jumping into AP classes as a freshman.
It’s a good schedule if you’re a good student. However, you’re missing a history/social science. Does your school consider Thinking Skills the equivalent of a Social Science/History?
I believe we only take 3 years of social sciences but if not then I think Thinking Skills counts towards that. @MYOS1634
Assuming you want to attend a selective 4-year college, colleges want to see:
- 4 years each of English and social science
- Math through precalculus (honors) or Calculus
- Bio, chem, physics +1 more science
- Foreign language through level 4, or AP
- Some personal picks Jr/Sr year
3 years of social studies should be fine. My school only offers 3 years.
Other than any worries about that, your schedule is great!
Since you’re an AICE student, if you are confident in Spanish 1 take it online so you have the option of taking it at an accelerated pace and potentially taking something else.
