As a prospective BME student, would I have time to do work study to reduce my cost of attendance? Is it by the hour? I'm just trying to learn more about my options. Also, has anybody had their aid significantly decrease throughout their stay at Hopkins? I talked to my financial aid officer and she said that my aid may decrease, especially when my brother leaves college (even though all of his money for college is in his own account which I can't use...).

I have a friend who is majoring in BME. Even with a full course load, he pulled off two jobs during the weekend. If you can find work-study that is flexible with your schedule, you’ll have time. The trick is to find that right job.

I’m not sure if all jobs are by the hour. I have a work-study TA position, and I get paid by the hour.

Your aid will probably decrease when your brother leaves college because JHU sees your parents being able to focus all their “disposable income” on you. My circumstances have changed, but I’m a little different in that I entered unmarried and now am married. My family, in total, had to pay 16k-17k last year, and now I’m being given an estimate of 22k-26k (if you enter as a dependent student, JHU will continue considering you as a dependent student for the rest of your time at JHU).
