Air Force Academy, And where else should I aim

Hey guys, I am an Indian Male junior. I am interested in doing my education via the air force and then doing medical school and my residency via the Force, and then serving the Force via my medical training. I have a couple of questions. Firstly, do i have a decent chance?

unweighted GPA 3.65
SAT: 2240 single sitting, 780 M, 740 R, 720 W
750 MATH II, 760 MATH I, 770 Physics, 750 Bio, going to take chem and lit in october, expecting 750 on both
6 A.P's next year
3 5's as of end of Jr year
Class treasurer for sr year
teach younger kids SAT stuff via summer class, free
at least 120 hours of community service
Boston regional brain bee 2nd place out of 50 plus students
Black Belt Karate

I understand that the weakest aspect of my application is most probably my GPA, but I think I can kill my Sr year, first sem.

I am indian, I do not know if that will help my chances because I do not think that the Air Force Academy has many of me.

My second question is, if I was to do undergrad air force, do my medical school somehere else, and then do my residency via the Air force, would that count as service? I am a litle confused on how doctors work with the Air Force training.

I am double posting this into the what are my chances thread so disregard the rest please, if you are reading this via the Air force.

Hey guys, based on my above stats, could I get some recommendations for good pre-med colleges? I understand that a google search appears to be my most useful tool, but I want other people's opinions as well because a good pre med school is not as simple as the most prestigious university. Thanks in advance!

Only addressing the AF part of your question:

First of all, as you said, your GPA is low. USAFA has cut back class size by a lot in recent years, while applications have increased at the same time. Your SAT is good but the GPA may in fact hold you back some.

Second, it is VERY difficult to go from USAFA to med school. It’s possible, and they do have slots (~20 each year) but to get the requirements, GPA, and have time to study for the MCAT while at the academy means that a lot of people who go in planning on premed never reach that goal. A whole lot. You have to realize also that the needs of the AF will always come first. Last year (2011 grads) a number of students had been accepted to med schools and were planning on attending and at the last minute (literally a couple months before graduation), the AF told them they would no longer pay due to budget cuts. Your goal should be to be in the AF as an officer first (by far) with med school as kind of a pipe dream. It can happen, but it’s far more likely it won’t. If this doesn’t work for your mindset, definitely look elsewhere.

Third, if you’re okay with all of this, realize acceptance rates are low and look into AFROTC as well. If you get a scholarship through AFROTC, you can use it at pretty much any college with a unit. The amount will vary however. So some will only be enough to cover in state while others will pay for a high-end tuition.

I would also think the lack of athletics, particularly team/varsity letter, would hurt you as well. While the black belt will count for something, they do like to see team sports and something like 90+% of each incoming class has at least one varsity letter.

Finally, by Indian - do you mean you live in India or that you’re a Native American? If the former, I just want to make sure you realize you need to be a US citizen to attend USAFA. If you mean the latter, then yes, it will help you as a diversity candidate in the process.

I think he means his race in Indian/Asian

thank you for the information dude, I guess if medicine is a slim chance then the Air force is not for me! And btw, I meant Indian as in Asian heritage, American born citizen.
