Air Force Track

Im currently a junior and I am looking for an edge to get in the academy. I was wondering what times in the 400m i would need to help give me a boost in admissions. I ran the 400 in 54 freshman year with no practcie because I played baseball as well. Sophomore year i did not run because of baseball. Currently junior year I run high 50 low 51. I was wondering if anyone who had any info could help me out. Thanks!
P.S. I will be going to summer seminar if that helps.

if the numbers i’m seein are correct, the best indoor times this year were from 49 to 53 for our team

(…at 7200 ft…)

Your times are really good!

Here, go to this site and fill out the recuiting questionairre. That’s how I got recruited, because there are so many athletes out there and there’s no way they can keep track of everyone - especially if you’re not currently competing in track. It lets them know that you’re really interested in being recuited.

Ha 400m. You should run distance, 1600m, 3200m. Thats what real men run.

I’ve been trying to contact the vaulting coach to see if I could stop in a watch a pole vaulting practice during Orientation (just to learn how college vaulters practice). But both he and the player I wrote haven’t gotten back with me. Oh well, I’ll keep trying.

Statick, I ran the mile and two-mile for all four years in high school and let me tell you, the 400m is a much harder event than either of them, probably the toughest event on the track. I’ve got a lot of respect for the “real men” that can handle that distance.

Crano, if all else fails, send a message my way before Orientation. A good friend of mine holds the pole vaulting record here. She’s really cool, and I’m sure she’d be happy to show you around.

Ironically, petko’s AOC is also the pole vaulting coach…and I believe he holds the mens record or at least had it and held it for several years…

Actually he’s my aoc too…

And the 800 is without a doubt the hardest event. Period. Dot.

And that’s coming from another miler and 2 miler.

800 is the hardest event, 400 is a close second. I had to run both my junior year, now i just run the 400 and the 300 hurdles

Heptathlon anybody? :P

Yeah, my hat goes off to the heptathalon athletes. They’re gold medal qualified atheletes in EVERY event. I watch that at the olympics and can’t believe what I see.

…Zman, that is kind of ironic.

Frawley (vaulting god and idol) set the record this year at 18’1. Hence…the reason I want to see them practice.

On the topic of hardest event, I agree with it being 800. I’ve ran 400, 800, and 1600. The 800 is the beast.

I’ve decided I’m going to ATTEMPT to walk on to the basketball team  after not playin ANY high school hoops! lol eh, i got nothin to lose haha

Yeah, 800m is pretty hard. 400m as the hardest event, no way in hell. I run the 1600 and the 3200m, and used to do the 4x400m right after the two mile. Waaaaaay easier than a 4:25 1600m.
Decathlons are so crazy that they should not be considered in hardest event discussion.
On the 800m. My experience has been that it is less painful when you are trying your hardest and running a fast time rather that not and running slower.

well, our basketball team isn’t so amazing, so you actually might have a chance if you are pretty good

HA Dope! totally trying it. Now to work on my dunk, and draining trey’s! lol :D

As for running, I used to be a 400m sprinter and i have got to say it is definitely harder than long distance. Now, I never had to run the 800m in a race and am glad i never have had to, or will need to seeing as i’m not doing track this year, but I’m pretty sure I would choose the 400m over that. So I think the 800m runners are the real men out there  just my two cents…I wish my coach wouldn’t have gotten rid of vault. GRRRRR

Wait, so are you saying the 400 or 800 is harder, F22? That last post was confusing…the 400m is “definitely harder than long distance,” but the 800m runners “are the real men out there”…huh?

LOL

i’m pretty sure he means that 800 is harder than 400, in his opinion.

800 meter by far. as a distance runner iv seen it all, except your 200s and 100s. when i run a 400 i am grateful! although the 1200 isnt very fun either…
