Alaska + journalism?

I’m from the Pacific NW. For a while I wanted to study marine science at University of Alaska @ Fairbanks, but recently I’ve become interested in pursuing journalism. I’m wondering if UAF is a good place to major in journalism while still being able to study marine science.

If not, what are some other (preferably public) universities that would offer decent financial aid to an average student, and great programs in both writing and science?

UAF is good for marine science because its easy access to the ocean, lakes, ponds etc… I don’t know about journalism.

I graduated from UAF a long time ago, though my degree was CS. My impression is the school has an average journalism department.

Most people who attend UAF from outside of Alaska go either because they think want the experience of living in Alaska, or because there are certain programs UAF is very strong in. Marine biology would be one of those strong programs, so if that was your priority, UAF would be a great place. But I don’t know that I’d go there specifically to study journalism.

It would be a perfectly fine place to go if you wanted to combine the two.
