Hello everyone, I am an Oregon senior interested in pursuing both journalism and marine science. I know they’re on opposite sides of the spectrum, but I don’t really have a restriction on location besides in the US/Canada. Journalism is more important to me but the school should at least offer environmental science with classes in marine science. My GPA will be around a 3.1-3.4 so Ivies are out of the question.
What’s wrong with Oregon State University? Excellent Marine Sciences departments. As for journalism, what is important is that you hone your English and communications skills. Some of the top broadcast journalists were English or Philosophy majors in college. At many universities Journalism is a graduate program only.
I have no idea about their marine science program, but the University of Oregon is a top-notch journalism school and you should be able to get into it (and as a bonus, in-state tuition).
