So for some reason, I never knew that we had to do alcohol edu. When I did find out I finished it asap and realized that I can't do part II until I get an email reminder. But this second part is due 9/20/11. Is it ok if I finish it later?

No if you don’t finish by the deadline they will put your student account on hold which means you can’t go to classes, can’t participate in anything sponsored by UCLA, can’t go into dorms, can’t purchase anything on campus, pretty much can’t do anything until you finish it. Plus if you’re late they charge you a fee for each day that it’s late, I don’t know the exact figure but I read somewhere that it’s $250 for each day that you’re late.

I don’t think you even have to do it. I gave up watching that video not even a quarter of the way through it. It had terrible acting, kept repeating alcohol is bad, use it with moderation, wear a condom, blah blah blah, you get the idea.

It started as a 4 year commitment by UCLA in 2006 for purposes of establishing a study to see if the program had its intended effect. That ended in 2010. Even during the 4 year period, despite the fact it was considered “mandatory”, it was not. So long as you finished the first part, you’re fine. Even if you didn’t, you’d still be fine.

The same program is conducted and “required” at Cal, Stanford, etc.

You do learn a few good things – learning the difference between blacking out and passing out, for one; how to protect and talk to friends who have had too much at a party; minding your own drink to make sure someone doesn’t slip something into it, etc.

The downside to this specific program is that it’s too long, too preachy, and asks for personal information that’s none of their business for purposes of collecting data.
